Lighting Case Study
Example of Energy Saving Using the T8-T5 Hyundai Retrofit Adapter
Example 1:
Case Study:
In this case, an industrial facility utilizes 1, 000 x 4 foot T8 (1 inch diameter) 2 lamp 36Watt fluorescent light fittings to illuminate their manufacturing facility.
1, 000 tubes of T8 rating, with conventional electro-magnetic ballast.
The calculation is based on 12 operating hours per day, for 335 days per year.
Electricity cost per kWh is R0.93
Therefore:
4 ft 36W T8 Fluorescent Light Fittings
Current Usage = 1,000 x 108Watts per light fitting (36W x 2 Lamps + Ballast)/1,000 x 12 hours per day x 335 days per year
Annual Energy Usage = 434, 160 kWh
Annual Cost = 434, 160 kWh x R0.93
= R403, 768
Versus
Hyundai 4 ft 28W T5 Retrofit
Current Usage: 1, 000 x 56Watts per fitting (28W x 2)/1, 000 x 12 hours per day x 335 days per year
Annual Energy Usage = 225, 120 kWh
Annual Cost = 225, 120 x R0.93
= R 209, 361
Therefore Energy Savings:
Energy Savings Per Annum: 209, 040 kWh
Annual Cost Savings:
Annual Savings: R194, 407
Savings Per Month: R16, 200
Cost Savings After Eskom Increases:
Year 1: R 194, 407
Year 2: R 225, 512
Year 3: R 248, 063
Total Savings in 3 Years: R 667, 982 + Eskom Rebate
